A look back at a wonderful summer of French immersion in Montreal!

Last summer marked the very first edition of the French immersion program at our fledgling Alliance Française de Montréal!

These immersive French courses, combining intensive French courses and unique cultural activities, were held between July 7 and August 29, giving participants the opportunity to practice French in a variety of contexts, while immersing themselves in the rich heritage and arts of Montreal.

Each week included fifteen hours of classes and five outings organized around four themes: “Montreal yesterday and today”, “The art of living in Montreal”, “Montreal as an artist” and “Montreal welcomes the world”. The courses were based on authentic content to anchor learning in the reality of Quebec and Canada. Visit program:

- Discover the history of Montreal, its communities and their place in the evolution of Quebec and Canada;
- Explore our architectural, artistic and gastronomic heritage;
- Immerse yourself in Montreal’s cultural offerings.

Result ?

Learners make rapid progress and become more fluent thanks to this dual linguistic and cultural immersion, a friendly atmosphere, dynamic groups, real friendships created… and an exceptional exceptional recommendation rate of 9.59/10.

This success is underpinned by the dynamism of the Alliance Française network :

Three-quarters of the participants had already attended an AF
Half of them joined us through a partnership with their local AF.

A huge thank you to our colleagues in the AF Canada and USA network for their trust and support. Thanks to this collaboration, we were able to offer our learners a unique experience.

This first edition confirms that beyond the classroom, living French and the French-speaking world is also a human, cultural and collective experience.. And as the largest French-speaking metropolis in the Americas, Montreal is the ideal setting for this immersion.

What’s New in 2026 – 2nd Season of Francophone Immersion

All in all, the 2025 edition of the Francophone immersions was a real success, attracting learners from a wide variety of backgrounds. A few figures illustrate the enthusiasm generated by this program:

Over 50 learners welcomed
Participants from 16 regions of North and South America
Learners aged 18 to 64 and over
11 nationalities represented

This diversity of profiles and backgrounds helped create a rich, dynamic and intercultural immersion experience.

On the strength of this successful first edition, the entire Alliance Française de Montréal team is already ready for the summer of 2026.

In order to offer participants an even richer experience, several new features have been added to the program this year.

An extra month of programming

The program has been extended by one month, which represents 33% more immersion opportunities to fully enjoy the Francophone experience in Montreal. More dates from June, new themes, and this year, groups from A1(discovery) level!
