The French Assessment Test (Test d'Évaluation de Français - TEF) is an international benchmark test that measures your level of knowledge and skills in French.
We offer preparation courses provided by our certified TEF experts and will allow you to get acquainted with the structure of this test, as well as train you for the 4 tests required: written comprehension, oral comprehension, written expression, oral expression.

  • The Alliance Française declines all responsibility in the candidate’s choice of exams.
  • Registration depending on availability.
  • A non-refundable fee of $75.00 will be retained in the event of a cancellation or change request no later than 15 days before the exam date.
  • The choice of category (Québec, Canada, Tout Public ou IRN) is final and will not be subject to any change
  • No refunds or changes will be accepted after the date 15 days before the exam date.
  • The results are valid for two years.

  • Written expression : 60 min – 2 topics to cover

TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) - 4 modular tests

As part of immigration procedures in Quebec, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration (MIFI) requires you to certify your linguistic knowledge of French. It acknowledges the TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) for these procedures. The TEF Quebec (TEFAQ) is divided into 4 modular tests:
  • Orale Comprehension : 40 min – 40 questions
  • Orale expression : 15 min – 2 topics to cover
  • Written Comprehension : 60 min – 40 questions
  • Written expression : 60 min – 2 topics to cover

TEF Integration, Residence and Nationality (IRN) – 4 tests

This exam is NOT VALID for immigration applications to Quebec and Canada. Recognized by the French Ministry of the Interior, the TEF Integration, Residence and Nationality is intended for any foreign person over the age of 16 wishing to:
  • - Enhance their level of French as part of the OFII citizenship course (level A1) ;
  • - Certify their level of French for a long-term resident card application (level A2)
  • - Certify their level of Frenchfor an application for French nationality (level B1).
The TEF Integration, Residence and Nationality (IRN) is divided into 4 compulsory tests:
  • Orale Comprehension : 17 questions in MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) format to be answered in 10 minutes.
  • Orale expression : 15 min – 2 topics to cover in 5 minutes each, 10 minutes in total.
  • Written comprehension : 13 questions in MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) format to be answered in 30 minutes.
  • Written expression : 2 topics to cover in 30 minutes in total.

Modular test in 5 tests recognized, among other institutions, by the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research for procedures such as:
  • - becoming an immigration advisor;
  • - studying in France;
  • - having a professional assessment of your written and spoken French skills.
The 5 modular tests are organized as follows:
  • Orale comprehension : 40 min – 60 questions
  • Written comprehension : 60 min – 50 questions
  • Glossary and structure : 30 min – 40 questions
  • Orale expression : 15 min – 2 topics to cover
  • Written expression : 60 min – 2 topics to cover
