From March 16 to 20, 2026, the Alliance Française de Montréal celebrated the Journée internationale de la Francophonie (International Day of the Francophonie) on March 20, a week rich in encounters, discoveries and emotions.
Throughout this special program, our community came together to celebrate the French language through a variety of activities, highlighting the diversity and vitality of the French-speaking world.
Monday - Launch of theater workshop
The week kicked off with the launch of our very first Théâtre workshop, a creative immersion designed for learners of French (levels B1 to C2).
This workshop is in line with the other formats offered at the Alliance Française de Montréal - such as the conversationconversation café littéraire or the written communication - and is another way to practice and perfect your French.
It offers a unique space for :
- speak more natural, expressive French,
- gain in fluidity, spontaneity and confidence,
- improve pronunciation, intonation and oral presence.
A great opportunity to explore the language in a fun and stimulating way.
Tuesday - The Inter-Alliance Challenge
Tuesday was marked by the Défi Inter-Alliances, a fun, international competition organized by the Fondation des Alliances Françaises in partnership with various players.
This challenge brings together learners from Alliances Françaises around the world to take part in quizzes on French language and culture: gastronomy, art, literature, music, cinema, French expressions, sport and much more.
During the local edition, our learners Polina and Carlos brilliantly represented the Alliance Française de Montréal, and will be preparing to defend their chances at the Canadian national phase, scheduled for April 11. The prize: an international final with a week-long trip to Brussels, Belgium!
Wednesday - Ciné-Rencontres at AFMTL
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting our very first Ciné-Rencontre, in partnership with Ciné-Quartier.
The screening of Nino, by Pauline Loquès, attracted a large audience, confirming our community's interest in cultural activities around French cinema.
This series of screenings will continue with :
- April 22: Amour Apocalypse, by Anne Émond, a Quebec comedy-drama starring Patrick Hivon, Piper Perabo and Gilles Renaud.

Thursday - Soirée de la Francophonie
The highlight of the week was the Soirée de la Francophonie, celebrating the richness and diversity of the French-speaking cultures that make Montreal so vibrant every day.
On the occasion of the Journée internationale de la Francophonie, we honored more than just a language: a mosaic of backgrounds, histories and perspectives that nourish contemporary Francophonie.
The evening was marked by the presence of Andréanne Moreau, who is responsible for culture, heritage, design and the French language at the City of Montreal. Ville de Montréalas well as Mr. Éric Lamouroux, Consul General of France in Quebec City, representing the Consulate General of France in Quebec City.
We would also like to thank our partners and collaborators for their contribution:

Friday - Corporate PGL dictation
The week ended with participation in the Dictée PGL des entreprises, an initiative supported by the Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie.
The grand finale, held on March 20, showcased the pleasure of playing with the French language in a stimulating linguistic challenge.
Our representatives, Noëlline Abauzit and Obafemi Olugbemi, proudly participated in this edition. On this occasion, we were also pleased to present a participation prize, offering French language courses to employees of the company drawn, Farm Credit Canada.
Supporting this initiative is fully in line with our mission: to promote the French language while encouraging its learning and influence in the professional world.
This year’s Semaine de la Francophonie once again illustrated the richness, diversity and dynamism of a language carried by millions of voices around the world.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those – learners, teachers, partners and guests – who contributed to making these days a true moment of sharing, culture and conviviality.
At the Alliance Française de Montréal, we pursue our mission every day, at the crossroads of French language teaching and cultural outreach, by creating living spaces where language becomes a link, a terrain for expression and encounter.
La Francophonie is a language… but above all, it’s a community on the move!
