What to expect in your French class – Immersion explained

Why are our French classes taught in full immersion?

At our school, French is the only language spoken in class — even for complete beginners.

Why?

Because immersion works. You learned your first language without translation, and the same principle applies here. From your very first session, we create an environment where you live and breathe French.

Living in Montréal — a true crossroads of cultures and languages — means our students come from diverse linguistic backgrounds. Since our teachers can't speak every language represented in our classrooms, and not everyone speaks English, we use French as our common ground.

This approach ensures everyone feels equally included and supported.

You Won't Be Lost — Here's How We Help

Don't worry about feeling overwhelmed. Our teachers are specially trained to:

  • Use simple vocabulary, repetition, and expressive gestures
  • Provide real-life examples with visual and interactive support
  • Guide you to build understanding naturally, just like children learning their first language

👉 Remember: You don't need to understand everything right away. Just stay curious and keep trying.

The Result? Real Fluency

This immersive method builds genuine fluency and confidence — not just textbook knowledge. Our experienced teachers are with you every step of the way, providing the guidance and encouragement you need to succeed.

Learners’ testimonials

I find the teachers very competent and I like the teaching methods. What’s more, we learn in small groups, so each student has plenty of opportunity to ask questions, talk and practice his or her French. There are also many activities such as conversation workshops to help students improve their French. It’s a great place to learn French!

Learner – Level A1

I wanted to thank you for putting me in touch with Cédrelle. She exceeded my expectations as a teacher. Thanks to her, I’ve really improved my French. I appreciate the opportunity to work with her and wanted you to know. Please accept my most respectful sentiments. Thanks again.

Cameron
Learner – Level B1

The course is excellent. Kelly is full of energy, creative, and has a cognitive flexibility that I respect. Usually, I feel judged when I speak French in Quebec. The Alliance Française is completely different.
